The World Was Dying, By Alfred Jones - 1148 Words
The world was dying, we all knew this time was coming, how soon we just didnââ¬â¢t know that. The year was 2072 and the human race was in pure panic. The soil and water were too poisoned to grow food and the hazy pollution did nothing for the plants that did grow. The leading men and women of my time started looking for an out, trying everything they could to clean the soil and water and the air, so we could survive. But nothing worked, and the human race was slowly dying off. Thatââ¬â¢s where I came in, my name is Alfred Jones and along with my twin sister Andrea we were sent out to find a new home. We just didnââ¬â¢t expect the adventures that awaited us. Among two hundred other young men and women we partnered up and searched the galaxies of anyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦I turned my head and her yellow-green eyes stared into my own yellow-green eyes. ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢re coming up to another planet Alfred, get ready.â⬠Her voice broke the hum of machines and I nodded, okay so she didnââ¬â¢t want to update. Turning and following my sister I suited up and hung on to a hand holder as the small space pod landed, just another day on the job. Going ahead of my sister I exited the opening and landed on softâ⬠¦blue soil? ââ¬Å"Huh? What theâ⬠¦.?â⬠I murmured and bent down and ran my gloved hands through it. Blue soil, well thereââ¬â¢s a first for everything I suppose. ââ¬Å"Alfred? Hello? Hey, dummy! Youââ¬â¢re supposed to answer, ya know!â⬠Her irritated voice spoke through my earpiece and I startled and snapped back. ââ¬Å"Well youââ¬â¢re supposed to give me a chance! Oh smart one!â⬠ââ¬Å"Shut up and do the tests already.â⬠She deadpanned and I shot the space pod a look as I got out my tools. Running through the most important test of all, oxygen. ââ¬Å"Positive.â⬠The machineââ¬â¢s female voice broke through my thoughts and I ran it again just to be safe. ââ¬Å"Positive.â⬠Airâ⬠¦clean air. Not really thinking through things I had my mask off and Andreaââ¬â¢s panicked voice yelling in my ear. I breathed in my first breath of clean air for the first time in my life. ââ¬Å"Put your mask back on! Alfred Jones!â⬠My sisterââ¬â¢s voice and footsteps pounded in my head, rattling my mind.
